In 2018, Strada and affordable housing partner East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) won a competitive RFP process issued by the Bay Area Rapid Transit agency (BART) to redevelop two city blocks adjacent to the Lake Merritt BART Station. The project is a large-scale, transit-oriented development opportunity in the Chinatown/Lake Merritt area of Oakland that provides direct BART access to downtown San Francisco in 12 minutes.

The proposed development plan is a mixed-income, mixed-use project that includes a 25-story, 330-unit market rate apartment tower, a 95-unit affordable senior housing building, a 98-unit affordable family housing building and a future phase 500,000-square-foot office tower with ground-floor retail. The phased plan also focuses on public realm improvements with active plazas, landscaped areas and a commercial “Paseo” with small-scale food stalls to create a vibrant sense of place around the BART Station.  Strada received initial entitlement approvals in 2021 and BART Board of Directors approvals in 2022.
